Penwortham Town are Champions of Division 2
Penwortham Town clinch the championship of division 2 with an impressive 6-1 victory over Lea Rangers at Preston Sports Arena, thanks to five goals from Dean Campbell and Ian Hayes. Campbell’s return brings his tally for the season to 28.
The club, who have a youth team in youth division 1, joined the senior league in 2003 and have won promotion on successive seasons, although this will be their first silverware in the league.
Club secretary Jim Dempsey was naturally delighted and was quick to praise his young squad. Jim said, “The majority of the lads have been together for five years and some have been together twelve years playing for Penwortham Boys and then Penwortham Town”. He added, “They deserve this success and they are already looking forward to playing in division 1 next season”.
