Latest NewsTuesday September 7, 2010Extra Time in Cup MatchesAll clubs and referees are reminded that in LEP Sunday League cup competitions, the Syndicate Trust Challenge Cup, Presidents Cup, Youth Cup and Youth Trophy, any tie that is level after 90 minutes, extra time MUST be played and if the scores are still level after extra time the tie will be decided on the taking of penalty kicks. (See Cup Competitions, section (L) on page 52 of the League Rules). This is brought to your attention because the Lancashire Football Association (LFA) has introduced an amendment to its rules for the LFA Sunday Trophy, the LFA Amateur Shield and the LFA Under-18s Youth Cup, whereby no extra time will be played in these cup competitions if the scores are level after 90 minutes, the tie will be decided on the taking of penalty kicks in accordance with the Laws of the Game. In short, extra time will be played if necessary in Lancashire Evening Post Sunday Football League cup competitions but no extra time in LFA games. Eamonn McNamara.
