Latest NewsMonday March 8, 2010Boots For Africa
The League is supporting the Boots for Africa campaign Boots for Africa in conjunction with Unibond League club Burscough FC who have two teams in our youth section. The purpose of the scheme is to improve the life of youngsters who are less fortunate than our own. If you or anyone you know has a pair of old boots that they can donate, please let us have them. There is a distribution network throughout Africa which has already arranged to send boots to communities in South Africa, Ethiopia, Ghana and Zambia. Every pair of boots that are donated will be received in Africa by a young person who has never had a pair of football boots. All we ask is that each pair of boots is clean and tied together and size of boots written on a label. Please bring your boots to the League Meeting on Monday 22 March 2010 or contact Eamonn McNamara on 01772 864466 for further information. Sunday March 7, 2010 BAC/EE Preston book final place after an epic semi-final.BAC/EE keeper Andrew Beattie saved two spot kicks to earn his team a place in the Youth Trophy Final Youth premier division side BAC/EE Preston booked their place in the Syndicate Trust Youth Trophy Final after beating Brigg FC (youth div 1 blues) after extra time and penalties in a magnificent semi-final at Preston Sports Arena and they will now meet Poulton Town in the final at Bamber Bridge FC on Wednesday 28 April. Brigg were the better team in the first half and they opened the scoring through Barry Pryce with a bullet shot in the 19th minute. BAC drew level in the 44th minute when Mututu Chilufya made the most of a goalmouth scramble but Brigg restored their lead virtually from the restart when the dangerous Pryce made the most of a defensive mix up to nip in and score. BAC looked the sharper in the second half but it took until the 75th minute to draw level through Rob Lawrenson and they took the lead in the 12th minute of extra time through a Jack Hardman free kick only for Tom McDonnell to coolly level matters with six minutes of extra time remaining. The penalty shoot out ended 4-3 in BAC’s favour with Scott Lawrenson, Jack Hardman, Tom Lawrenson and Kieran Baxendale scoring their spot kicks and Barry Pryce, Dan Davis and Tom McDonnell scoring for Brigg. This game was a credit to both clubs and to the league. The quality of football and the sportsmanship displayed by both teams was of the highest order and the game was well handled by referee Dave Moore and his Assistants Tony Little and Jamie Little.
